OpenAI Launches First European AI Data Center in Norway with $1B Investment
OpenAI has partnered with Norway's Nscale Global Holdings and Aker to establish Stargate Norway, its inaugural European AI data center. The Kvandal-based facility will house 100,000 Nvidia GPUs by 2026, supported by Norway's abundant hydropower resources and below-average electricity costs.
The $1 billion project includes $250 million in initial funding, positioning Norway as a strategic hub for AI development. "Europe needs more compute to realize AI's full potential," stated OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, emphasizing the continent's growing role in advanced technology infrastructure.
